Gurin locks are ideal for a variety of situations, such as adjustable or tie-back stop applications, spring activation, and the prevention of wire migration. They are particularly useful when there is limited space between wide molar attachments or where it is impossible to create a tie-back bend in an archwire. They are often used with an anchor miniscrew (DSI TAD) and a closed spring for faster and better results. The hook on the Gurin lock works with the same logic as hooks on the brackets or buccal tubes allowing the intraoral elastics to fasten them.
Gurin locks offer several advantages over other locks/stoppers or hooks. They do not require soldering on top of a wire. A unique internal design can keep the thread inside without scratching or distorting and still hold it with full tensile capacity. It is easy and simple to use and saves a lot of precious time. Does not cause any discomfort to the patient. They are perfectly adjusted for the moist oral environment, incredibly durable, and stable.
The Gurin lock is fixed into place by positioning the slotted bolt over the archwire and tightening the nut over it. DSI Gurin Locks can hold up for the whole treatment time without deformation or breakage.
Gurin locks require a special Gurin driver to fix them on the wire and remove them after treatment.
