DSI Chromic Catgut is an absorbable suture made from pure collagen sourced from the submucosal layer of animal intestines, primarily sheep and goats. To enhance its durability and improve healing upon absorption, it undergoes a process where a coating containing chromic salts is applied. This coating makes it more resistant to tissue enzymes, increasing its longevity.
The unique manufacturing process involves winding together strands of purified collagen intestines, ensuring they are free from diseases such as BSE and aphthous fever. These strands are uniformly coated with chromic salts. To achieve a near-monofilament texture, the natural thread is precisely ground and treated with a solution containing glycerol.
DSI Chromic Catgut is known for its high tensile strength during tie-down, providing firm knots and excellent handling. It is absorbed by the body through phagocytosis, making it ideal for joining tissues that require rapid regeneration.
Indications:
Closure of gingival flaps - procedures such as gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, or periodontal pocket reduction
Socket preservation after tooth extraction
Closure of oral mucosal incisions
Soft tissue surgeries
Ophthalmic surgeries
Plastic and reconstructive surgeries
Orthopedic surgeries
Features & Benefits:
Absorbability - Chromic gut sutures are absorbable, they are broken down and metabolized by the body over time, eliminating the need for suture removal
Biodegradability - Derived from natural sources, chromic gut sutures are biodegradable, reducing the risk of foreign body reactions and promoting natural tissue healing
Simplified post-operative care - A predictable absorption profile simplifies post-operative care planning and reduces the need for frequent follow-up visits
Tensile Strength - Exhibits adequate initial tensile strength to hold wound edges together during the early stages of healing, providing secure wound closure
Minimal tissue reaction - Generally elicits minimal tissue reaction, reducing the risk of inflammation or adverse tissue responses
Smooth surface - reduces tissue trauma during suturing and minimizes the risk of tissue irritation
Versatility - Chromic Gut sutures can be used in a wide range of surgical procedures across different specialties due to their versatility and compatibility with various tissue types
Sterilize packaging - Each suture is individually packaged and sterilized to ensure compliance with medical standards and reduce the risk of surgical site infections
New needle - Equipped with a new improved atraumatic needle for less friction and tissue irritation
